Balance Sheet
A snapshot of what a company owns, owes, and what is left for owners at a specific date.
Also called: statement of financial position
What it means
A balance sheet shows a company’s assets, liabilities, and shareholders’ equity at a specific point in time. It is a snapshot, not a period report. The basic relationship is assets equal liabilities plus equity.
Why it matters
It helps users judge financial strength, debt levels, liquidity, and what resources the business controls.
