Portfolio and Allocation Terms
Portfolio
The full collection of investments owned by a person or account.
Also called: investment portfolio
What it means
A portfolio is the complete mix of investments held by an investor, such as stocks, bonds, funds, cash, and sometimes alternative assets. A portfolio can be simple or highly complex depending on the strategy.
Why it matters
People should evaluate risk and progress at the portfolio level, not just by looking at one holding in isolation.
