The full return from an investment, including both price change and income.

What it means
Total return measures how much an investment gained or lost after including both the change in price and any income paid out, such as dividends or interest. It gives a fuller picture than looking at price alone.
Why it matters
Some investments look weak or strong based only on price, but total return may tell a more accurate story.
