Market Basics
Ask Price
The lowest price a seller is currently willing to accept for an investment.
Also called: ask, offer price
What it means
The ask price is the price at which someone selling a stock or other investment is willing to sell right now. It is one side of the market quote. The other side is the bid, which is what a buyer is willing to pay.
Why it matters
Seeing the ask price helps users understand that there is often a small gap between what buyers want to pay and what sellers want to accept.
