Revenue
The money a company earns from its main business activities before expenses are subtracted.
Also called: sales, top line
What it means
Revenue is the top-line amount a company records from selling goods or services during a period. It does not mean the company kept that money as profit because many costs still have to be paid.
Why it matters
Revenue helps users judge business size, growth, and demand, but it should always be compared with costs and cash generation.
